FAQ about the central services (Neptun, Teams, Eduroam)

Please note that the central authentication and the related services (Neptun, Eduroam, Teams etc.) are not hosted by the Computing and Education Technology Center of Faculty of Sciences, so we cannot help you to solve your problems further than the hints given below.

Frequently Asked Questions about the central authentication and the related services

1. I cannot login to Neptun, what should I do?

  • Remove Eduroam from the known networks on your devices. If you do not do this, your account may be locked again after changing the password. For similar reasons, it is also recommended to logout from Teams.
  • Go to the website password.pte.hu and follow the instructions for Change a forgotten password or unlock a locked account. This only works if your mobile phone number or e-mail address is registered in Neptun. If neither is, ask the Registrar's Office to register. It is recommended that you enter the password you think is correct into the Last known password (optional) field.
  • Once you have successfully unlocked and/or changed your password, you can reconfigure the Eduroam network on your devices. It may take a few hours before you can login to Teams again.

If you still have not solved your login problem following the steps above, contact the central Service Desk at sd.

2. Eduroam WiFi does not work on my device, what should I do?

Check if you can login to Neptun.

  • If you cannot login to Neptun, follow the instructions in section 1.
  • If you can login to Neptun but you are asked to change your password, follow the instructions to change it. Before you do this, remove Eduroam from the known networks on your devices. If you do not do this, your account may be locked again after changing your password. After you successfully change your password in Neptun, try to connect to Eduroam with the new one. If it still does not work, contact the central Service Desk at sd.
  • If you can login to Neptun without changing your password, remove Eduroam from the known networks on your device and try to configure it again. If it does not work after that, install the geteduroam app (available on Android/iOS/Windows) and try to configure it with it. If it still does not work, contact the central Service Desk at sd.

3. I cannot login to Teams, what should I do?

If this is your first time logging in, please read the guide entitled Setting up Microsoft Teams (first sign-in, two-factor authentication) at the bottom of this page.

If you have used Teams successfully in the past, please first check if you can login to Neptun.

  • If you cannot login to Neptun, follow the instructions in section 1.
  • If you can login to Neptun but you are asked to change your password, follow the instructions to change it, then try to login to Teams with the new one. If it does not work, wait a few hours and try again. If you still cannot login, contact the central Service Desk at sd.
  • If you can login to Neptun without changing your password, contact the central Service Desk at sd.

4. Two-factor authentication (2FA) does not work in Neptun

Contact the Registrar's Office and ask them to turn off 2FA. Then login to Neptun and turn on 2FA again (My Data > Settings > Two-factor authentication). If this does not help, contact the central Service Desk at sd.

5. Two-factor authentication (2FA) does not work in Teams

Contact your study administrative officer via e-mail.

Setting up Microsoft Teams (first sign-in, two-factor authentication)

1. Signing in to Teams

To sign in to Teams, you must enter the following details (on the web interface, or in the desktop or mobile app):

  • Username: neptun_id or eha_id
  • Password: the password you also use for the Neptun system.

If you are already using the Teams app with a different account, you must add the above account to the app and sign in with it!

2. Setting up two-factor authentication (2FA)

When you sign in to Teams for the first time, you must set up 2FA. To do this, you will need:

  • a device on which you sign in (laptop, desktop computer, tablet);
  • and your mobile phone, on which you’ll use the authentication app.

Although the Teams administrators recommend Microsoft Authenticator as the authentication app, we would advise against this: if you get a new mobile phone, you won’t be able to continue using 2FA automatically, which means you won’t be able to use Teams either – you’ll have to set everything up again, with the help of the central service desk! We recommend using Google Authenticator, which makes switching to a new mobile phone extremely simple, as it happens automatically when you transfer your Google account.

  • When you sign in to Teams for the first time, the system will ask you to set up 2FA. Do not proceed any further; instead, select the ‘I want to use a different authenticator app’ option to set it up using Google Authenticator! Teams will then display a QR code.
  • Install Google Authenticator on your mobile phone, then launch the app. Tap the + icon, then select Scan QR codeand scan the QR code displayed by Teams.
  • Continue in Teams and enter the 6-digit code displayed by Google Authenticator. You have now successfully set up 2FA.

3. Troubleshooting

If you are unable to sign in to Teams, please contact the central Service Desk at sd or by phone on 72/501-500/36006. If it is only 2FA that is not working, ask for the two-factor authentication for Teams to be cleared – you can then set it up again as described above.
